Intricate Collage Pieces

These vintage paper illustrations are actually cut from cheap books I find at thrift stores. Both came from an old music book. The top piece reminds me of lace. It must have taken me more than an hour to cut that piece the way I wanted it. Relaxing work believe it or not!

Dance of Life

My second collage was a complete 180 from the first. I realized that I liked all sorts of types of collage creation from romantic to surrealism to machines and science. As luck would have it I also found a great picture of Marcel DuChamp's infamous men's urinal, called Fountain.

Bodywise

After perusing through several collage blogs and websites, I created my first collage and put it up on Flickr. I did get one comment - the writer said it was very strange. That's what I was going for.

September 2009
(SOLD)
This was the 3rd collage I'd ever created. I'm really into bright colors.
I sold this in early December but was a bit sad to see it go. I do know it has a great home though.

Welcome Intro

Hello and welcome to my collage blog.

Over the summer, I became enthralled with collage art of all types. In August, I created my first collage. I found it to be so much fun and satisfying I kept creating more. I've now branched out into incorporating more 3D images in my art. Common themes are science (particularly astronomy) and technology.
I search all over my city for old books to use in my art. I prefer vintage books as those seem to have more attractive illustrations to my eye. However I also use current magazine pages. Part of the fun is the treasure hunt of finding a special book to use in collage.
Creating also is a form of relaxation for me - a veritable zen - when I search inside the books I've brought home to find a hidden illustrated gem. And cutting out the piece properly can take quite some time.
I hope you'll enjoy looking at the collages I created.
I'll also be including intriguing and comical illustrations I have found in my books. Enjoy and thanks for reading!
